EDIT DECISIONS LIST
OFFLINE EDIT
This is my offline edit of my trailer, this means that this is the first version of my promotional trailer for my short film. So far I have only edited around 15 seconds worth of clips and have not included and SFX or transitions. I know that there are some parts of this that I will change as some of the clips seem to be too too short or don't fit together quite right but as a whole I think it is a good start. I believe that there will be more of a dramatic effect to fit with the music that I have used if I slow down some of the clips. I I know that I also need to add colour grading as well as graphic in order to fit the conventions of a trailer as well as create a branding.
EVIDENCE OF EDITING
When editing clips of the two thrift stores, I knew that an important visual element of these clips would be the colour grading. I looked through all the different creative effects and settled on using "Fuji REALA 500D Kodak 2393". I feel that this is fitting because it gives the clips a retro vibe which fits with the idea of thrifting. When editing the clips which are of the Rana Plaza disaster, I wanted to make them black and white as I noticed that the quality of the clips looked bad in my offline edit. I used the creative effect "SL NOIR NOUVELLE" as I believed that this would improve the look of the clips and also add more of an ominous vibe.
I added titles to my trailer, using the same font for all. I wanted there to be continuity though out to create a branding if this was to be released as a short documentary so I made sure that all graphics I added were in the font "Vogue". I believe that this made it look more professional.
I applied transitions to much of my trailer. The one that I used the most was "film dissolve". This one looked really effective when transitioning between the text and the clips. I really like the way that the text is still there for a moment at the beginning of the next clip.AUDIO LEVELS

Within my documentary, most of the audio is through voice over or part of the interview with bedding music. When I first was coming up with concepts for the trailer, I was just going to stick to using this audio however after looking back on my research as well as playing around with edits, I decided that it would be more dramatic to just include music and sound effects. The music that I have chosen was a piece of royalty free music. After listening to many different pieces, I decided that this one would fit my trailer perfectly as it was quite dramatic. At first I wanted to include music from the short film as I wanted there to be a strong connection between the two to create a branding however I believed that this wasn't needed as the trailer and film would not be watched consecutively. I still wanted to include some branding however but I did this through using the sound effects which I used within my documentary. I had to make sure that the audio levels were appropriate for these as I didn't want the camera sound to seem two loud but I also didn't want the music to overpower it. I believe that overall I did a good job of creating a balanced audio which fit with the genre of my film to create a strong trailer.
DRAFTS
In this draft of my promotional trailer, I was testing how the trailer would look if I put text at the beginning. I also slowed down some of my clips for a more dramatic effect.
This is the second draft of my trailer. I decided that I didn't like the text being at the beginning and having the slowed down model clip both fit better with the audio and made it more dramatic. I added in titles and graphics to this draft however I am still yet to finish the ending of the promo and add colour grading to some clips as I want the ones of the factory to be black and white.
FEEDBACK
EVALUATION
The promotional trailer that I created has the purpose to promote a short documentary called "We Need a Fashion Revolution". This is a documentary which focuses on the negative impact which the fast fashion industry has on the environment and how we can make changes to our attitude towards fast fashion in order to make an positive impact in the long run. The short film is something which I have created for unit 5, create a short film, and I decided after doing research that in order to really strengthen this.
I believe that the final promo I have created is overall really strong. From research to post production, I have managed to keep conventions of an audio-visual promo within my trailer. The way that I have filmed the clips for my trailer was using industry standard equipment such as a 4k camera and tripod. I also used a three-point lighting set up to make sure that the outcome of my trailer was as profesional as possible. The audio was recorded using a microphone, however I decided to remove the audio from the clips and just use a piece of dramatic background music with graphics to explain what the film is about in order to keep the visuals the main focus of the promo. I knew that I had to make sure that my trailer was engaging as my film is a documentary which is about a topic which is not widely talked about so therefore audiences need to see a trailer which is extra exciting and intriguing in order for them to want to watch the film. I believe that the way that I edited this trailer was very skilled, using Adobe Premier Pro to add different graphics and transitions to my trailer in order to make it look as profesional as possible. From the research which I did I realised the importance of this within my own trailer. I used the trailer "He Named me Malala" from my research to check that my own trailer included all of the conventions of a documentary trailer and noticed that there were some key similarities between that one and my own. The first being my use of background music, fitting with the tempo of the trailer and story that I am wanting to tell. I believe that the visual effects within this trailer was better than my own, with the narrative of mine slightly not making sense, however overall I think I did a good job of creating a trailer similar to a profesional documentary promotional trailer. The main purpose of a trailer is to promote a product and I believe that through how engaging my trailer is for the audience, this has been done.
If I was to change anything about my trailer it would be to go into more detail about whasat my documentary is about as although I believe that mine is informative the content of my documentary, if I was to make the trailer slightly longer then I would be able to explain further about the documentary. I would also add a voice over to the trailer as I believe that even though the music is strong, a voice over would have further improved my trailer and also fone a better job at imforming the audience what the documentary is about.
Overall however, I am very happy with the promotional trailer I have created and I believe that it is engaging and fit for its purpose of promoting my short film. I also believe that it fits the codes and conventions of other documentary trailers and therefore is profesional and would make my target audience want to watch my short film.
